Transportation Project Funding

The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) administers approximately $40-$50 million in federal transportation funding annually to local communities through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program, Surface Transportation (STP) Program, Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), and Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) within the Salt Lake and Ogden-Layton Urban Areas.

Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality
Provides funding for transportation projects that improve air quality.

Surface Transportation Program
Provides funding for highways and bridges, transit capital improvements and projects, and active transportation projects.

Transportation Alternatives Program
Provides funding for the planning and construction of bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Carbon Reduction Program

Provides funding for transportation projects that reduce on-road carbon dioxide emissions.

Project Selection

WFRC works with communities each year to identify and select transportation projects for regional funding.

September
Applicants submit a short Letter of Intent to begin the process
December
Full applications are due, allowing WFRC to evaluate project need, impact, and readiness.
Spring
WFRC recommends projects that best improve mobility, strengthen the economy, and enhance quality of life across the region.
