About Us

Utah’s population is expected to reach five million by 2050.
That means more people commuting, more deliveries, and more errands. To keep everyone connected and businesses running, Utah needs a transportation system that works with how communities grow, supports the economy, and offers more ways to get around. The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) leads this effort as the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

Who We Are

At WFRC, we shape the future of transportation in 6 counties and 76 cities, serving over 2 million people. Our MPO is a driving force in shaping how communities along the Wasatch Front grow, move, and thrive. Each year, we oversee over $50 million in federal transportation funding, ensuring every dollar is invested strategically to enhance safety, reduce congestion, improve mobility, and drive economic growth.

Our Council sets the vision and makes regional transportation investment decisions, while our staff leads the planning process — using data-driven analysis, modeling, and forecasting to develop long-term transportation strategies. By engaging local leaders, transit agencies, and UDOT, we ensure transportation investments align with both local needs and national priorities, keeping our region moving forward.

We also serve as one of Utah’s seven Associations of Governments (AOGs). In this role, we help local governments collaborate on regional planning and support the implementation of state legislation, following guidance from the Utah State Legislature.

In addition to our MPO and AOG responsibilities, we also support the transportation planning of our rural communities in our area as a Regional Planning Organization (RPO).
